Dr. Amy, Doug, and Eric welcome Kim Carlson the newest OPT2LIV coach to the mic to share why they are so excited to have her on the team.
Kim owns Roots and Wing Yoga Wellness and shares her art of yoga in Saxony the community near Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville, IN. She grew up in athletics and realizes the importance of health. When her and her husband had twins she found the benefits of yoga and has been sharing them with others for years. She received her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) Certificate and is currently working on her 500 Hr YTT. The OPT2LIV team is very grateful to have her on the team.
Dr. Amy shares the importance of the Breathe Pillar and how the techniques and modalities of yoga help people to realize these benefits.

Dr. Amy Banter, Doug Anderson, and Eric Banter discuss the benefits of intermittent fasting. They begin by sharing the types of fast that they are using to help them maintain healthy weight and stay healthy overall. The various types include: 16/8- rest from eating for 16 hours and eat 8 hours per day (typically eating from 1-9pm), Eat-Stop-Eat- rest for 24 hours (not eating after dinner one night till dinner the next night), and 5:2- consume only 500-600 calories on two non-consecutive days of the week.
Dr. Amy shares the benefits to your cells and hormones and that it can be a very powerful tool for maintaining a healthy weight, because it increases your metabolic rate, which in turn helps to remove harmful belly fat that builds up around the organs and causes disease. Besides weight loss other health benefits include: insulin resistance, inflammation, heart health, cancer, brain health, and anti-aging.

Dr. Amy Banter and Eric Banter discuss some optimal beverages to help people live optimal lives. Dr. Amy shares that the body is 2/3's water, so the purpose of drinking is to hydrate the body and take on nutrients. They discuss the importance of BPA free products, and highlight that if you are buying bottled water in plastic containers make sure that it is BPA free. Eric shares that they use a reverse osmosis system at home and how affordable it is. Dr. Amy highlights the benefits of coffee to include reduced risks of heart disease, Alzheimers, colon cancer, and premature death, but cautions that it is a stimulate and should be consumed in moderation. Dr. Amy shares that knowing your genetics will help to determine how you will response to coffee. This is one one of the areas covered in an OPT2LIV consulting service. Dr. Amy reminds us that the ideal portion size for your plate is half vegges, a quarter whole grains, and a quarter protein.
They discuss how to eat healthy if your restaurant options are not health conscious.
Dr. Amy shares that in her research she found that Chick-fil-A was the first fast food restaurant to completely remove trans fats from their menu.
A healthy option is to make your own lunch. If you plan ahead you can make bigger dinners and use the leftover for lunches.
The group discusses healthy breakfast places like: Another Broken Egg and Wild Egg, which all have gluten-free options and turkey bacon.
The discuss how Aldi is a great place to shop with organic, non GMO, and grass fed options.

Dr. Amy says that Dr. Hyman is leading a movement to help heal our healthcare system through educating people on how to eat healthy.
Dr. Amy shared that she will be breaking the FOOD Book discussion into 4 Podcast Episodes and today's first episode is on Sugar. She shares the many unknown effects of sugar and the different types that are used in the foods that we eat.
She says the our body's realize the benefit of removing sugar in just 10 days to include blood measures on cholesterol and inflammation.
The next episodes will include a deep dive into what macro and micro nutrients are and what we need to know about them to stay healthy.
