Doug and Eric talk about how to prepare for the stresses of the Holiday Season, and the importance of keeping your glass over half full or overflowing.
For survival purposes the brain is intrigued with fear. It is our job as conscious human beings to realize the difference between real fear and perceived fear. Real fear is usually an acute occurrence and our brain is wired to fight or flee. In this state the brain instructs the body to release chemicals, so that it is ready for either state. Once this state has passed the body returns to normal and we go on with our day. Perceived fear, if not recognized and managed, can keep the brain in a state of fight or flight for extended periods of time, which is not normal and can lead to chronic fatigue and/or chronic conditions.
Doug and Eric share that science has proven that the brain is plastic and that we have the opportunity to change how it perceives and works. They share some techniques for shifting the nervous system from the fight or flight to the calm digestive healing mode, so that we can begin the process of seeing life full of peace, joy, and love.

Dr. Amy shares her journey after a recent bout with acute back pain and how she used the Opt2Liv coaching protocols to move through it and facilitate her healing.
Dr. highlights some of the statistics of back pain and starts with 84% of adults will have low back pain some time in their lives. She breaks down back pain into acute, subacute (4-12 wk) or chronic (>12 weeks). 85% of cases are nonspecific, or of unknown cause, and it is the 5th leading cause of office visits to the doctor.
Dr Amy shares the role of movement in treating back pain. She discusses what happens in the back tissues and muscles after injury that cause pain. And how exercise improves both pain and function, muscle and ligament and tissue repair and increases healing.
Eric and Dr Amy explain functional movement and how unique it is for each of us and how important it is to establish a personalized plan.
They discuss their chronic low back pain program which Linda, Eric and Dr Amy developed and studied in those with CLBP incorporating Yoga Therapy, Massage as well as the Opt2Liv pillars and how they saw 43% improvement in quality of life measures such as pain, emotional states and physical states.

How The Chakras Affect Optimal Living

Dr. Amy Banter, Linda Banter, Kim Carlson, & Eric Banter are back to expand on what the chakras are and why knowing how they work could help someone to live optimally.
The group breaks down each of the seven main chakras in the body: muladhara, svadhisthana, manipura, anahata, vishuddha, ajna, sahaswara.
They start with muladhara located at the base of the spine, which is our center of survival. When out of balance on one side we might feel fear filled or concerned that we don’t have enough money to survive and on the other side might have greed and might look at the abundance that we have as power.
Linda shares that if we want to find balance we have to be consciously aware of our current state, and once aware begin a journey toward balance. It is believed that if we stay out of balance that with time this could lead to disease in the body or mind.
The second chakra is svadhisthana is associated with the reproductive organs and creativity. When out of balance on one side one might experience low libido, sexual disfunction on the other side over emotional and take everything personal.
The third chakra is manipura is associate with power and purpose. When out of balance on one side we have people that can’t associate with themselves and on the other side power hungry.
The group shares that our media plays into the first three chakras to keep us in-tune. The consist of material adds, sexual exploitation, and highlighting people of influence. When we find balance in the first three chakras our energy is not consumed and therefore wants to move upward toward our fourth chakra.
The fourth chakra is anahata our heart center and the beginning of our evolution to want to love and to serve. When out of balance on one side we might have a lack of empathy towards others and on the other side jealousy.
The fifth chakra is vishuddha our center of communication. When out of balance on one side might not be a good listener and on the other we might be using harsh words.
The six chakra is ajna our center of intuition. When out of balance on one side we might be delusional and on the other obsessive.
The seventh chakra is sahaswara our center of wisdom. This is our opportunity to tune into our Creator. When out of balance on one side we see depression, brain fog and on the other we would might think it is my way or the highway.
When we put energy into balancing our chakras we are actually putting energy into growing spiritually.
The group discusses that optimal living is realized when one is conscious for how to place balance in their chakras, and that this is what the OPT2LIV coaches are trained to do.

Eric shares how quantum physics is helping us to better understand the spiritual realm through proving that 4% of the energy in the universe is seen and measurable and that the other 96% is unseen and unmeasurable. The chakras are our bridge between the seen and unseen realms.
The group shares how the chakras are tied to the nervous system (science) or the nadis system (yoga), which is also the system that acupuncture uses to heal patients.
When the chakras are in balance unseen energy flows more easily in the body and will naturally move upward in the body to the higher chakras.
Linda shares that when the chakras are out of balance that it can create disease in the body. When we listen to our body we can intuitively facilitate balance in our lives, which creates balance in our chakras.
Kim shares that it is from this intuitive awareness that we can open up our chakras and begin the journey of enlightenment.

Dr. Amy, Doug, and Eric invited Nancy Schalk Connor back to talk about Trauma.
Nancy shares that trauma is much more prevalent than we imagine. It is important to understand, because it actually changes the brain. Psychologists and psychiatrists refer to trauma as Big T and little “t”, where a little “t” trauma could be that I didn’t make the team and a Big T trauma would be a car accident or exposure to combat. Nancy highlights that scientists now know that the brain is plastic or that it changes based on its environment.
Nancy says that the good news is that with self compassion and a few tools to people are able to begin the healing process.
Dr. Amy shares that many people are not ready to recognize that they might have a condition of trauma, because they didn’t experience a Big T trauma. The signs of this condition could include: not sleeping, stress, self sabotaging, and not choosing to eat the right foods. The OPT2LIV coaches are here to help people realize the effects of trauma and provide the tools to improve their wellbeing.
Nancy highlights that if the trauma happened at a younger age that many times the person isn’t consciously unaware that they even had a trauma. Nancy walks through what happens to the body physiologically when it is impacted by stress.
The group shares that the tools needed to facilitate a positive change from someone that has been affected by trauma are in the OPT2LIV plan.

Dr. Amy, Doug, and Eric welcome Kim Carlson from Roots and Wings Yoga Wellness back to talk about Aroma Therapy and Essential Oils. Kim specializes in combining essential oils with crystals to maximize the benefits for individuals.
Dr. Amy shares that essential oils are extracts from plants that work with the brains limbic system, which manages our emotions and memories. These extracts capture the essence of the plant to include their protective components that can also benefit others. These oils are normally dispensed topically or through an atomizer. She shares that many hospitals are studying the benefits of essential oils on patients.
The group discusses how they use essential oils to benefit their life from reducing sickness to calming the mind.
Kim shares that her essential oil designs focus on the chakras (energy centers) of the body and are created from a process that combines blending oils and crystals from personal intuition and pendulum divination.
