Dr. Amy Banter and Eric Banter share that 40% of people are affected by insomnia or sleep difficulties. Insomnia can affect your health, energy, the mind (mental & emotional), productivity, and focus.
Dr. Amy shares that the effects of insomnia include:
1) Decreased Longevity- sleep deprivation (<7hr/night) can cause premature shortening of telomere length
2) Cognitive Impairment
3) Decreased mood and poor judgement
4) Increased risk of heart disease
5) Lower immune function
6) Increased rates of weight gain and obesity and slowed metabolism
Dr. Amy promotes natural foods and supplements to treat insomnia and cautions on the chronic use of sleeping medications because of their potential to affect memory, increase risk of dementia, cause daytime somnolence or affect focus and clarity.

Doug and Eric are at the Indianapolis Sailing Club where Eric talks about how he enjoys exercising.
Eric loves yoga, but he and Amy will also go to the gym or create their own exercise set at home with just the floor and their stairs. If Eric is not at home on his mat doing his yoga practice he occasionally attends a yoga class nearby. He shares that he really enjoy's the Bikram Yoga style and will attend a class at The Hot Room or Flourish Yoga and Wellbeing, which are close to home. Eric shares that they also go to the gym where they will get on the elliptical, hit the weights, and then stretch.
Doug and Eric discuss why it is important to get your heart rate up and how to calculate your target heart rate.

Jacob Banter shares his experience of biking across the United States this summer with Journey of Hope and the Ability Experience and the 100+ brothers from his Fraternity Pi Kappa Phi.
The group discusses how the four pillars of OPT2LIV: Breathe, Eat, Move, Sleep were integrated into Jacob’s journey. They highlighted how OPT2LIV can help 20 year olds live optimal lives.
Jacob shares how sleep was key to his performance. They typically would sleep on gym or church floors.
He states that when you burn over 6 thousand calories/day that food intake is critical and how he managed this intake demand with his allergies to dairy and wheat.
Jacob shares that his formula for success was to establish and maintain a steady cadence. He says that from this strategy his body was able to optimally perform to include maintaining a steady heart rate and minimize calorie burn. He realized that after he hit day 21 that his body was prepared for riding each day.
Jacob highlights that this was an experience of a lifetime, and was very grateful for the support of his team.

Dr. Amy Banter, Doug Anderson, and Eric Banter welcome back Erin Smith to talk about functional movement. Functional movement is movement that helps us to stay healthy and injury free. The group talks about the importance of stretching to maintain functional movement. Erin Smith with Flourish Yoga and Wellbeing highlights that they have a yoga practice for everyone.
Dr. Amy mentions that movements of the spin are vital to our health and the we all must be intentional in moving the spin often. She shares that movement and stretching typically help the body to release anti inflammatory and lubricating chemicals for our joints.
The group discusses how important it is for high school kids to stretch. It also produces a competitive edge in sports, since power equals length times distance, or that a long strong muscle produces the most power.
A simple way to look at functional movement is to either, "move it or lose it".

In this episode Adam Ebbert (IG @cld_brwr, T @adamebbert) shares his experience as a physical therapist and coffee expert. As a physical therapist he specializes in spine therapy and shares his experiences in helping people heal so that they can live their optimal life. Eric shares his personal experience with cervical neck surgery and nerve pain and how Adam worked with him to facilitate his healing so that he lives pain free today.

Adam shares his love for cold brew and how this process is different from hot brewed coffee and the benefits. He shares that the cold brew coffee that he brought today is a special bean from the India Coffee Roasters in Carmel that was infused with a Four Day Ray bourbon beer barrel to produce maybe one of the most unique coffee beans in the area today. The group shares how amazingly unique and tasty the coffee tastes.
Dr. Amy shares her love for coffee and its benefits to include lower rates of Alzheimers, Parkinson’s, cancer, diabetes, and inflammation. Amy cautions that these benefits are for coffee itself and not those with added sugars or flavors.

Linda shares how her meditation practice moves from being in the moment, listening to the birds and her surrounding, to being still in the mind, and how this has served her well in her life.
Dr. Amy shares her story about how someone at work who asked her how she is able to stay so calm amid the high pace high stress demands of her Family Practice Office. She shares how her daily practice of meditation has allowed her to react consciously to life situations in a calm, collective, and beneficial way. She even meditates with her dog!
Eric shares that he learned his meditation practice from his mom around the age of 10 years old and uses it today to help him stay connected with the body, mind, and soul. He shares how he uses white light visualization, moving and still meditation to help him become more in-tune with the loving whispers of God within him.
Linda closes with how unique meditation practices are from person to person and encourages us to find a practice that works for us.
